Anton Kolig (Neutitschein 1886 - 1950 Nötsch) Sitting nude pencil/paper 32,5 x 23,5 cm SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE °€ 1800 - 3000 STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE °€ 1800 Anton Kolig, originally from Nový Jičín in Moravia and active in Vienna from 1904 onwards, was a leading Austrian painter of Expressionism and Color Expressionism. He studied with Oskar Kokoschka at the School of Applied Arts, then transferred to the Academy of Fine Arts to study under Heinrich Lefler, Rudolf Bacher, and Alois Delug, where he met Sebastian Isepp and Franz Wiegele, and frequented the salons of Eugenie Schwarzwald and Berta Zuckerkandl. In 1909, he founded the Neukunstgruppe (New Art Group) with Egon Schiele, Albert Paris Gütersloh, Anton Faistauer, and Wiegele, married Wiegele's sister in 1912, and exhibited with colleagues at the Hagenbund in 1911. On the recommendation of Gustav Klimt and Carl Moll, he received a scholarship to study in Paris, served as a war artist in the First World War, and in the 1920s created tapestries, mosaics for the Salzburg Festival Hall, and frescoes in the Klagenfurt Landhaus. As a member of the Nötsch Circle with Isepp, Mahringer, and Wiegele in Carinthia, he taught as a professor at the Stuttgart Academy and the Prague Secession from 1928 onward. Kolig's work, characterized by male nudes, portraits, and expressive color fields, combines psychological intensity with a monumental visual language. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights and platform fee. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax is added to the sum of the highest bid, the buyer's premium and platform fee. This amounts to 13% for paintings, drawings, graphic works and sculptures and 20% for photographs and all other items. The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
