Maria Vera Brunner-Frieberger* (Neuhäusl 1885 - 1965 Vienna) Bundle of 112 letters, 3 drawings and 1 woodcut by the artists of the Wiener Secession with her sister Hermine Fritsch c. 14 x 9 cm SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE € 600 - 800 STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE € 600 Brunner initially trained as a concert pianist. At the same time, she attended the Art School for Women and Girls in Vienna, where she turned her attention to drawing, textile design, and the applied arts. From 1910 onwards, she designed accessories, toys, and textiles for the Wiener Werkstätte; from 1916, she worked there in the so-called artists' workshop. She was thus one of the many—often long-overlooked—female designers who played a pivotal role in shaping the visual identity of the Wiener Werkstätte. In 1918 and 1919, she furthered her training at the School of Arts and Crafts under Alfred Roller and Erich Mallina. In the early 1920s, she taught drawing and applied arts herself. In addition to decorative and textile designs, she created graphic art for commercial use and book illustrations; for instance, in 1919 she illustrated *Barocke Balladen* (Baroque Ballads) by her husband, the writer Kurt Frieberger. As a co-founder of the Austrian Werkbund, Maria Vera Brunner-Frieberger championed the integration of artistic design, high-quality craftsmanship, and contemporary everyday design. Her work exemplifies the Viennese applied arts of the era spanning Art Nouveau, the Wiener Werkstätte, and Modernism. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights and platform fee. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax is added to the sum of the highest bid, the buyer's premium and platform fee. This amounts to 13% for paintings, drawings, graphic works and sculptures and 20% for photographs and all other items. The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
