Irene Hölzer-Weineck* (Prague 1888 - 1965 Vienna) Still life oil/canvas 47 x 33,2 cm signed Hölzer W SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE °€ 1400 - 2800 STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE °€ 1400 After receiving artistic training under Vojtěch Hynais in Prague, Irene Weineck studied at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts and the School of Applied Arts. She also took painting lessons from Lothar von Kunowski in Berlin. In 1912, she married the bank official and Major Felix Hölzer and moved to Vienna. There, working under the name Irene Hölzer-Weineck, she was active as a committee member of the Association of Austrian Women Artists and the Central Association of Visual Artists. In the early 1920s, Hölzer-Weineck spent several years in Harbin, China. Between 1918 and 1953, she exhibited repeatedly at the Vienna Secession, playing a part in a Viennese art scene shaped by both the Secession and the Künstlerhaus. In 1930, she received the Honorary Prize of the City of Vienna; her works were also represented in public collections and museums in Austria and abroad. Hölzer-Weineck distinguished herself—particularly during the interwar period—as a portraitist of Austrian figures. Her portraits combine a character-rich interpretation with an expressive, color-driven style. In addition, she created landscapes and still lifes, as well as graphic works—primarily etchings and bookplates for American collectors. Alongside artists such as Helene Heger and Hildegard Joos, she ranks among the notable Austrian female painters of the 20th century whose work bridges academic training, individual portraiture, and the exhibition platforms of the Secession and the Künstlerhaus. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights and platform fee. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
