Kmetty, János (1889 Miskolc – 1975 Budapest): Interior with a Bouquet of Flowers; watercolor and pastel on cardboard, signed lower right, 20.8 x 15.2 cm. Framed behind glass in a double mat. In very good condition with vibrant colors. The Hungarian painter, graphic artist, publicist, and art theorist János Kmetty was his country’s first Cubist and an influential teacher; he was a co-founder of several avant-garde movements and a member of the Szentendre artists’ colony from 1945 onward. In 1946, he became a lecturer at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts and head of the Department of Painting. His autobiographical and theoretical writings are important sources for that period. Throughout his artistic career, his works were characterized by the geometric and orderly nature of Cubism. The vibrantly colored works are elegant compositions with a clear structure and meticulous attention to every detail. Paintings 1710
