World War II: German Anti-Soviet Propaganda Poster of Stalin Unmasked as a Winged Beast, ‘The Curtain Has Been Torn Away’ - 23″ x 28.5″ Original World War II-era 23 x 28.5 German propaganda poster printed in Ukrainian, captioned "Завісу зірвано" ('The curtain has been torn away'). The imagery shows an arm wearing a swastika armband tearing aside a yellow curtain painted with an idealized vision of Soviet life (gleaming high-rises, a monument, motorcars, and a rising sun) to reveal the poster’s depiction of Soviet reality: a towering, hairy beast with the face of Joseph Stalin, posed as a saint with a halo and angel’s wings, holding a palm frond in one hand and, in the other, a cross whose lower end becomes a bloodied club. At his feet lies a bleak landscape of a shabby village, a firing squad executing a line of prisoners, a black vehicle, and a fortress-like prison with "НКВД" (NKVD) over its gate. Marked at the lower right, “PST 116.” Housed in a protective plastic sleeve. Professionally linen-backed and in fine condition, with light toning and scattered marks.
