Dwight D. Eisenhower Typed Letter Signed on His Election Victory, Sent to His Former SHAEF Intelligence Chief TLS signed “D.E.,” one page, 7 x 10.25, personal letterhead, November 22, 1952. Letter to Major General K. W. D. Strong of the British Ministry of Defence, sent in the aftermath of his election to the presidency. In full: "Things are extremely hectic here as you can probably imagine and your thoughtful congratulatory note of November 5th has only now come to my attention. Thank you very much for your good wishes." In fine condition. Accompanied by a vintage glossy 10 x 8 photo of Eisenhower giving a presidential address. Written just eighteen days after Dwight D. Eisenhower’s decisive victory in the 1952 presidential election, this brief note captures the president-elect amid the intense transition from celebrated wartime commander to chief executive. Eisenhower had defeated Adlai Stevenson on November 4, and by late November was already receiving national-security briefings and organizing an administration that would inherit the Korean War and mounting Cold War tensions. His correspondent, Major General Kenneth W. D. Strong, was a particularly fitting well-wisher: the British intelligence officer had served under Eisenhower during World War II as chief of intelligence at SHAEF, making the letter a personal acknowledgment between two veterans of the Allied command as Eisenhower prepared to assume the presidency.
