Paul von Hindenburg and Heinrich Brüning Document Signed, Preceding the Reichstag Dissolution Crisis DS in German, signed “von Hindenburg” and "Dr. Brüning," one page, 8 x 11.75, June 26, 1930. Document releasing Brüning from his duties as acting Reich Finance Minister, a post he had held for six days in addition to his role as Chancellor. In full: "In the Name of the Reich, I release the Reich Chancellor Dr. Heinrich Brüning from officially looking after the duties of the Reich Minister of Finance." Signed at the conclusion in fountain pen by Paul von Hindenburg and Heinrich Brüning. In fine condition. The document is an administrative order rather than a policy act. Brüning had taken office as Chancellor in March 1930, governing without a Reichstag majority and relying on Hindenburg's emergency powers under Article 48 of the constitution. Three weeks after this document was signed, the Reichstag rejected Brüning's budget; he pushed it through by presidential decree, the Reichstag voted to annul the decree, and Hindenburg dissolved the Reichstag at Brüning's request. The resulting September 14, 1930 election saw the Nazi Party's vote share rise from roughly 2.6 percent to 18.3 percent, a result widely cited as the start of the party's rise to national power. This document is therefore chronologically adjacent to the July 1930 Reichstag dissolution crisis, but is not itself part of it. It is embossed with the German eagle seal of the Reich and bears both signatures; jointly signed government appointment documents from Hindenburg and Brüning are considered scarce.
