Set consisting of a bow stamped "Emile Ouchard" and a violin bearing a "Pilman à Paris" label on the inside. Comes with a case. (signs of wear, minor imperfections, and missing parts) Note: The Ouchard family played an important role in the history of 20th-century French bow-making. Born in Mirecourt, Émile François Ouchard (1872–1951), known as Ouchard Père, began his apprenticeship in 1886 with the renowned bow maker Eugène Cuniot-Hury, whose business he took over before founding his own workshop in 1923. There, he developed a line of products renowned for the quality of its bow sticks and the precision of their craftsmanship. His son, Émile Auguste Ouchard (1900–1969), trained in the family workshop, carried on this tradition and helped establish its international reputation, particularly in Paris and later in the United States after World War II. Bows bearing the Ouchard name thus bear witness to the craftsmanship of the Mirecourt workshops, a mecca of French violin-making and bow-making. The Museum of French Violin Making and Bow Making in Mirecourt houses, among other pieces, a violin bow by Émile François Ouchard, made around 1925 and bearing the stamp “EMILE OUCHARD.”
