This climat, located in the heart of the Morey-Saint-Denis vineyard, is renowned for the elegance of its wines, which are approachable in their youth, fine and silky, in the spirit of Chambolle-Musigny. At Lignier, the vineyard from which this cuvée comes was planted in 1959 at the foot of Clos Saint-Denis, on a clay-limestone soil composed of many small stones. The aging potential is about ten years. Les Chaffots, for its part, is a climat on the upper part of the slope, similar to Monts-Luisants. The wines produced from it are renowned for their freshness and minerality, as well as their structure. At Domaine Hubert Lignier, this vineyard parcel was planted in 1968, above Clos-Saint-Denis, at an altitude of 330 meters. Its excellent exposure allows it to combine freshness and ripeness, resulting in one of the estate’s deepest-colored wines. The Morey-Saint-Denis Vieilles Vignes cuvée is a blend of two parcels: Faconnières, a vineyard planted in 1947 and 1960, and Chenevery, planted in 1936, 1942, and 1943. Located near Clos de la Roche, its soil is very thin. The Vieilles Vignes cuvée produces dense, complex, and smooth wines, made from small clusters affected by millerandage. Although 2021 is a year of freshness, it has nonetheless produced remarkable wines. The winter, alternating between cold and mild, was followed by polar winds and severe frosts from April 6 to 9. Thanks to a warm and sunny June, flowering proceeded smoothly. Until mid-August, the summer was very wet and temperatures remained cool. Despite a fortnight of sunny, dry weather in late August, autumnal conditions returned in September, lasting until the harvest on September 23. In 2021, the wines are fresh, highly aromatic, and light, supported by firm, fine tannins. Domaine Hubert Lignier will be pleased to welcome the winning bidder, accompanied by a guest of their choice, for a day at the estate during the harvest of the 2027 vintage.
