Located near Clos de la Roche, its soil is very thin. The Vieilles Vignes cuvée produces dense, complex, and smooth wines, made from small clusters affected by millerandage. In 2002, the winter was cold and long, followed by a cool spring, which delayed flowering. A hot, dry summer allowed for gradual, even ripening, aided by rains in early September and a sunny end to the season leading up to the harvest. The 2002 wines are ripe and concentrated, yet also full of freshness and fruit, pure and precise. The 2003 vintage is marked by the legendary heat wave with which it is associated. Beginning with a wet winter and a mild spring, the season was hit by severe frosts on April 11 and 12. An exceptionally hot and dry summer followed, resulting in particularly early harvests, beginning in mid-August. In the glass, the 2003 vintage yields full-bodied, expressive, and rich wines. 2006 began with damp and cool conditions, which characterized the winter and spring through to flowering. While the start of summer is exceptionally hot, a cool and wet end to the season slows the ripening of the grapes. The warmth and sunshine of September save the vintage and ensure the grapes continue to ripen through to harvest. The wines of this vintage are elegant, fruity, and precise, with silky tannins.
