A true mosaic of lieux-dits gives it its unique character: it spans some 85 highly diverse parcels, with a wide range of elevations, slopes, exposures, drainage patterns, and geological features. The Clos was planted by the monks of Cîteaux in the Middle Ages and later enclosed by walls. Beginning in the late 19th century, the land was gradually divided among numerous owners. 2017 is the first vintage of this appellation at Domaine Hubert Lignier. The grapes come from clay and stony parcels and are vinified with 20 months of aging in barrels, 30% of which are new. The cuvée combines power, depth, and the promise of exceptional aging potential. In 2017, the growing season began with a very cold winter followed by a warm, dry spring. In April, frost spells spared the Côte de Nuits to a relatively large extent. From June through August, warm spells alternated with milder ones; sporadic rains encouraged gradual, even ripening. The harvest began on September 7 at the estate. This winemaker’s vintage yields mouthwatering, fragrant, and supple wines. 2018 was a sun-drenched vintage that combined high yields with excellent ripeness. A very wet winter gave way to a mild spring that allowed for excellent flowering. During the hot and very dry summer, the vines benefited from the water reserves built up early in the season. The harvest took place on September 4 at the estate. The vintage shines through its rich, spicy, tannic, and full-bodied wines. 2020 is an early, sun-drenched, and concentrated vintage. With its very mild winter and uneventful months of April and May, the start of the season led to flowering under excellent conditions. The hot and very dry summer resulted in an extremely early harvest of very healthy, concentrated grapes, beginning in mid-August. The 2020 wines display deep fruit, are richly colored, concentrated, ripe, and well-extracted, and are endowed with a fine tannic structure. Although 2021 is a year defined by freshness, it has nonetheless produced remarkable wines. The winter, alternating between cold and mild, was followed by polar winds and severe frosts from April 6 to 9. Thanks to a warm and sunny June, flowering proceeded smoothly. Until mid-August, the summer was very wet with cool temperatures. Despite a fortnight of sunny, dry weather in late August, autumnal conditions returned in September, lasting until the harvest on September 23. In 2021, the wines are fresh, highly aromatic, and airy, supported by firm, fine tannins. 2022 is a warm, high-quality vintage. After a mild and dry winter, the late budbreak protected the vines from the April frosts. Hot weather set in from mid-April and continued through a sunny, at times scorching summer. Rain in June and August helped alleviate water stress. The harvest begins as early as September 1 at the estate. This excellent year produces deep, ripe, full-bodied, and tannic wines. Domaine Hubert Lignier will be pleased to welcome the winning bidder for a private tour of the estate, for two guests. The date of the visit will be mutually agreed upon by the buyer and Domaine Hubert Lignier. The estate will be delighted to welcome the bidder through December 31, 2027.
