BASHINZHAGYAN Georgy Zakharovich (1857–1925) River Landscape. Oil on canvas. Signed and dated 1912 in the lower left corner. (signs of wear) 46 x 65 cm (frame: 52.5 x 71 cm) Note: Georgy Bashinzhagyan (1857–1925), also known as Gevorg Bashinjaghian, gave water landscapes a central place in his body of work. Fascinated by variations in light and atmospheric effects, the Armenian painter frequently depicted the shores of Lake Sevan, the valleys of the Caucasus, and the river landscapes of his native region. Among his most famous works are *Lake Sevan on an Overcast Day* (1897), housed at the National Gallery of Armenia, and *Night on Lake Sevan* (1900), part of the collection of the Sakhalin Regional Museum of Fine Arts.
