BASHINZHAGYAN Georgy Zakharovich (1857–1925) Autumn Landscape. Oil on canvas. Signed and dated 1912 in the lower right corner. (restored; minor stains, pinholes, slight wear) 46 x 61 cm (frame: 51.5 x 66.5 cm) Note: Gevorg Bashinjaghian, known as Georgy Bashinzhagyan (1857–1925), is considered one of the founders of modern Armenian landscape painting. Born in Sighnaghi, Georgia, he studied at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts in Saint Petersburg under Mikhail Klodt before settling in Tiflis. Influenced by the landscapes of Arkhip Kuindzhi and Ivan Aivazovsky, he devoted most of his work to the mountains, valleys, and forests of the Caucasus, paying particular attention to the effects of light and atmospheric variations. His compositions, admired in particular by Martiros Sarian, hold an important place in the history of Armenian art. Several of his paintings are housed at the National Gallery of Armenia in Yerevan, notably his famous *Mount Ararat*, painted in 1912, the same year as this *Autumn Landscape*.
