EXCEPTIONALLY LARGE BOHEMIAN GLASS CUP WITH THE NOBLE AUGSBURG ROYAL CREST COAT OF ARMS - EARLY 18TH CENTURY 34 cm, 34 cm, hand-blown crystal, cut and etched. Perfect condition. Featuring a beautiful, hand-carved large French or German-Austro-Hungarian noble coat of arms at the center of the cup. Precious Bohemian crystal is produced in the regions of Bohemia and Silesia, in what are now the Czech Republic and Poland. Bohemian glass production began in the late 13th century but did not gain widespread recognition until the late 16th century. Over the next two centuries, Bohemia enjoyed complete European dominance in this industry. The cutting and engraving techniques of the Baroque period (1685–1750) are particularly noteworthy. In the early 17th century, the gem cutter Caspar Lehmann was appointed as a protégé of Emperor Rudolf II of Habsburg. Bibliography: “Bohemian Glass,” Sylva Petrová, Jean-Luc Olivié, published 1990, Flammarion, ISBN 2-08-013502-3. CABINET OF CURIOSITIES - CABINET DE CURIOSITES.
