19TH-CENTURY DUTCH SCHOOL, IN THE STYLE OF FRANS VAN MIERIS THE ELDER (Leiden, 1635 – Leiden, 1681) - The Painter's Studio Oil on two oak panels, unframed. Dimensions: 50 x 38 cm. Dimensions with frame: 67 x 63.5 cm. This work is a 19th-century interpretation of a composition by Frans van Mieris the Elder, one of the most refined representatives of the Leiden School during the Dutch Golden Age. This painting retains the intimate and sophisticated character typical of the Leiden tradition, distinguished by the careful execution of details and its fidelity to the spirit of the original composition. Painted on a two-panel oak panel and preserved without mounting, it serves as an interesting testament to the reception and dissemination of Dutch Golden Age painting during the 19th century, as well as to the continued prestige enjoyed by Frans van Mieris’s works among European art lovers and ...
