Regina José Galindo (Guatemala, 1974) - Bitch (2005) Lambda print mounted on Forex. Dimensions: 67.5 × 90 × cm. In the performance “Perra,” Regina José Galindo carves the word “BITCH” into her right leg with a knife. This action is a powerful condemnation of gender-based violence and crimes committed against women in Guatemala, where the bodies of tortured women have been found marked with inscriptions made with knives or razors. The work was exhibited at the Prometeo Gallery di Ida Pisani in Milan, Italy, in 2005. “Perra” uses the artist’s body as a means of protest and to shed light on the brutality inflicted on women, transforming physical pain into a powerful symbol of social and political protest.
