Italian School, 17th Century - Susanna and the Elders Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 105 × 120 cm; framed: 126 × 140 cm. Relined. A biblical composition inspired by the story of Susanna and the Elders, depicted in a scene with strong narrative and theatrical elements. Susanna appears in the center, partially nude and draped in white and blue fabric, while the two elders lean over her from the left and the background, creating a composition of dramatic tension. The work is notable for the contrast between the intense reds of the men’s garments and the light tones of the female figure, as well as for the use of directed lighting that draws attention to the main figures. The anatomical rendering, the staggered arrangement of the figures, and the scenographic nature of the composition reflect techniques typical of 17th-century Italian Baroque painting. Unsigned. The canvas has been relined. Condition: generally good, with relining.
