Attributed to GREGORIO VASQUEZ DE CEBALLOS (Santa Fe de Bogotá, May 9, 1638–1711), STAR LOT, Colonial School of the Viceroyalty of New Granada, Colombia Monumental oil on canvas depicting the Last Judgment with the Archangel Saint Michael Releasing the Souls from Purgatory (possibly formerly the central panel of an altar), dimensions: 275 x 179 cm. Born on May 9, 1638, in Santa Fe, the capital of the Royal Audiencia of Santa Fe de Bogotá in the New Kingdom of Granada. He grew up in that city as part of Creole society, as his parents, Bartolomé Vásquez and María de Ceballos, were descendants of families of Andalusian origin.
