Decorative frame made of pyrographed bone, imitation tortoiseshell, and ebonized wood – late 18th century A frame crafted from pyrographed bone, imitation tortoiseshell, and ebonized wood, notable for the richness of its materials and the delicacy of its ornamentation. Its composition combines an ebonized wood molding with a deep black finish, inlaid with imitation tortoiseshell and bone plaques decorated with pyrography. The contrast between the deep black of the wood and the warm, ivory tones of the bone is one of the piece’s main attractions. The plaques feature meticulously crafted botanical decoration, in which stems, leaves, and sinuous motifs unfold across the bone surface, lending luminosity and rhythm to the composition. The use of ebonized wood is particularly significant. The black finish visually mimics the appearance of ebony, a wood prized for its deep color and its association with luxury objects. Dimensions: 40 × 30 cm; frame dimensions: 52 × 41.5 cm.
