Il Granchio, after Annibale De Lotto (1877–1932) – Italian School – circa 1900 This patinated bronze sculpture is modeled after *Il Granchio*, one of the most characteristic compositions by Annibale De Lotto, an Italian sculptor associated with the Venetian art scene of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A model of the sculpture is housed at the Galleria d’Arte Moderna in Milan. The work depicts an anecdotal and spontaneous moment: a young man, startled by the presence of a crab, reacts by raising one leg while turning his body toward the small crustacean. The result is a scene full of movement and spontaneity. The original model is part of Annibale De Lotto’s body of work from the early 20th century, a period in which the artist developed a style that combined his solid academic training with a growing interest in everyday scenes and the spontaneous depiction of ordinary people. Born in San Vito di Cadore in 1877, De Lotto trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, where he studied under Antonio Dal Zotto, and subsequently pursued his artistic career in Venice. Dimensions: 100 × 73 × 32 cm.
