Pair of obelisks in red marble – Italian School – 20th century A pair of obelisks, crafted from Rosso marble, feature slender, rigorously geometric profiles, defined by a strikingly vertical shaft topped with a distinctive pyramidal finial and resting on elaborate architectural bases. The alternation of moldings, stepped sections, and smooth surfaces lends rhythm to compositions dominated by the purity of their volumes. The reddish hue gives the ensemble a particularly sumptuous and monumental presence. The rich chromatic diversity of the stone, punctuated by its natural variations, veins, and nuances, makes each piece unique and highlights the extraordinary expressive capacity of Italian ornamental marbles. The obelisk is one of the most enduring motifs in Western decorative tradition. Adopted by Rome in antiquity and later integrated into the city’s monumental landscape, its form became a symbol of power, permanence, and grandeur. From the Renaissance onward, and especially during the 17th and 18th centuries, marble and stone obelisks were also incorporated into palace interiors as decorative elements with a strong theatrical character. Dimensions: 43 × 10 × 10 cm each.
