Sándor Strelisky Miniature, Hungary, 19th century Sándor Strelisky, of Jewish descent, continued the tradition of photographic art in his father’s studio in Pest/Budapest. This watercolor-painted photograph depicts Empress Elisabeth (born Duchess Elisabeth Amalie Eugenie in Bavaria), popularly known as Sisi or Sissi. She was Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary from her marriage to Franz Joseph I of Austria on April 24, 1854, until her assassination in 1898. This is a very rare depiction of the Empress, who was reluctant to sit for artists or photographers. The scarcity of surviving works by this photographer has increased collectors’ interest in acquiring such rare pieces. Dimensions of the work: 21 × 17.5 cm. Frame dimensions: 28 × 24.5 cm.
Delivery is optional. You can use the carrier of your choice. The stated price does not include the lot price or the auction house fees.
