ORFEO TAMBURI (Jesi, 1910 – Paris, 1994) – Paris (1984) Multi-material screen print on 1000/1000 fine silver foil. Dimensions: 24.5 × 34.5 cm. This figurative work depicts an urban view of Paris, interpreted through a highly sensitive chromatic language and a careful synthesis of architectural forms. The composition features a group of buildings of varying heights, with facades in ochre, pink, and whitish tones, sloping roofs of reddish tiles, and numerous chimneys silhouetted against a sky of soft grayish hues. In the foreground, a street is lined with buildings in the traditional Parisian architectural style, while in the center, a taller building stands out. Its side facade, illuminated by warm tones, introduces a distinct vertical axis into the composition. The treatment of surfaces with light strokes, dark outlines, and delicate chromatic overlays lends the scene a serene and evocative atmosphere, reminiscent of the tradition of European cityscapes. The use of a multi-material screen-printing technique on silver foil lends a particular luminosity to the surface, enriching the tonal contrasts and architectural textures. The work reflects the characteristic artistic language of Orfeo Tamburi, an Italian painter and engraver whose career was closely linked to Paris and whose work is distinguished by a poetic interpretation of cities, their streets, and their architecture. His visual conception shows affinities with certain compositions by Maurice Utrillo (1883–1955), especially in his interest in Parisian facades, streets, and street corners, as well as with the work of Raoul Dufy (1877–1953), due to the lightness of the drawing, the synthesis of architectural elements, and the use of a luminous color palette. These references constitute stylistic parallels and do not imply an attribution of authorship. The work is signed on the plate and bears an authentication signature on the reverse.
