TOMMASO CASCELLA (Rome, 1951) - Untitled (2010) Etching and aquatint on heavy paper. Dimensions: 80 × 60 cm. Plate dimensions: 69 × 49 cm. This abstract print features a composition dominated by intense red, pink, and ochre tones, articulated by irregular geometric shapes and sinuous black lines. A monumental-looking vertical structure stands out in the center, formed by a broad reddish surface that narrows and widens throughout the composition, traversed by curvilinear strokes that evoke calligraphic signs and stylized architectural elements. A dark, undulating form unfolds in the upper left, while small linear elements and overlapping surfaces in the lower section add depth and dynamism to the whole. The combination of etching and aquatint results in a remarkable richness of texture, with granular surfaces, delicate tonal variations, and a marked material expressiveness. The work reflects the characteristic artistic language of Tommaso Cascella, an Italian artist from a renowned family of painters and sculptors, whose work combines abstraction, symbolic references, and a particular sensitivity to architectural structures and graphic signs. His formal conception shows affinities with certain compositions by Alberto Magnelli (1888–1971), especially in the articulation of geometric surfaces and the balance between abstract forms, as well as with the artistic universe of Joan Miró (1893–1983), due to the use of calligraphic-looking lines, biomorphic signs, and elements of symbolic evocation. These references constitute stylistic parallels and do not imply an attribution of authorship. Copy number 12 of an edition of 30. Signed in pencil in the lower right corner.
