NORTH AMERICAN SCHOOL. 20TH CENTURY. Masked Figures, 2000. Color photographic print. Dimensions: 35 × 28 cm. This artistic and experimental photograph depicts two human figures in a natural setting, their faces concealed by fabrics that give them an enigmatic and anonymous appearance. The figure on the left is leaning forward, its head covered by a yellowish-green fabric and dark clothing, while the figure on the right has its face completely covered by a blue cloth and a pinkish scarf. Both appear to be clinging to a structure in the foreground, surrounded by trees with bare branches silhouetted against an intense turquoise sky. The composition is notable for its slightly low-angle perspective, the overlapping vegetation, and the contrast between the vibrant colors of the fabrics and the dark areas of the figures. The concealment of the faces introduces a dimension of mystery and narrative ambiguity, transforming a seemingly everyday scene into an image with surreal resonances. His visual language shows affinities with the photography of William Eggleston (1939), particularly in the expressive use of saturated colors and the transformation of ordinary scenes into compositions of singular visual intensity, as well as with certain approaches of Cindy Sherman (1954), due to the use of disguise, the concealment of identity, and the construction of staged situations that challenge the conventional representation of the human figure.
