Othmane Khadhraoui (Tunisian, 1938–2012) Garden Mounted under glass. Signed in Arabic and countersigned on the back. Framed. H 19.5 W 26 cm. Provenance: collection of Laurent Danchin (1946–2017), writer, essayist, and art critic, passed down through the family. A self-taught painter and a leading figure in Tunisian naïve art, Khadhraoui painted scenes drawn from myths and popular culture and practiced painting under glass; discovered in 1992 in Sidi Bou Saïd, he achieved belated recognition despite a life marked by poverty.
