Provenance: collection of Laurent Danchin (1946–2017), writer, essayist, and art critic, passed down through the family. This artist couple has been working for over forty years “as a collaborative duo .” Based in the volcanic region of Auvergne since 1995, Ghyslaine and Sylvain Staëlens create assemblages from volcanic stone, roots, wood, and metal that serve an almost talismanic function, bridging animism and popular Catholicism. Their works are featured, notably, at the American Folk Art Museum in New York. The duo is profiled by Laurent Danchin in *Mycelium: Savant Geniuses and Raw Geniuses* (Editions de l’abbaye d’Auberive, Auberive, 2014).
