Ghyslaine and Sylvain Staëlens (French, born in 1960 and 1968) The Fish, 2007 High relief made of an assemblage of wood and painted metal. Signed and dated. Height: 30 Width: 50 Depth 10 cm. Provenance: collection of Laurent Danchin (1946–2017), writer, essayist, and art critic, passed down through the family. This artist couple has been working “in tandem” for over forty years. Based in the volcanic region of Auvergne since 1995, Ghyslaine and Sylvain Staëlens create assemblages—using volcanic stone, roots, wood, and metal—that serve an almost talismanic purpose, straddling the line between animism and popular Catholicism. Their works are featured, notably, at the American Folk Art Museum in New York. The duo is featured by Laurent Danchin in *Mycelium: Saved Genius, Raw Genius* (Editions de l’abbaye d’Auberive, Auberive, 2014).
