CORRESPONDENCE AND PAPERS OF COMMANDER THOMAS WILLIAMS approx. 24 letters, including some copies and a few other papers. Correspondents include Thomas Stilwell, Williams’ father (2), certificate by Captain Lambert, letter to John Williams from John Williams Jr, letters to his father (4), letter from his sister Mary Elizabeth Williams, letter to John Williams from Mr Welsford, from J. Pearce (late first Lieut. of “ Canopus”), to John Williams from Thomas Louis; together with Williams’ commission appointing him as Commander of His Majesty’s Sloop the Derwent (with parts excised) (A lot) Provenance: Estate of the Late Clive Richards CBE. Thomas Williams entered the Navy as a midshipman in 1794 and enjoyed a lively career, including fighting at the Battle of the Nile, and attained the rank of Commander in 1815 and retired on half pay a year later. He just qualified for the Naval General Service Medal before he died in 1849.
