'TABLEAU DE TOUS LES PAVILLONS QUE LON ARBORE SUR LES VAISSEAUX' ['CHART OF ALL THE FLAGS FLOWN ON SHIPS'] by Mondhare et Jean, Paris, 1791, featuring 134 engraved flags with contemporary hand-colouring, also depicting three naval battles from the American Revolutionary War, including the Battle of Ushant, 27 July, 1778; the Battle of June 17, 1778; and the Action of October 20, 1778, along with two French naval ships' profiles -- 24¾ x 36½in. (63 x 93cm.) This publication is one of the first times the French Flag is depicted after it was decreed at the National Assembly for French vessels to fly the tricolour flag.
