Pasteur establishes that life originates from pre-existing life, and not from inert matter. This edition precedes the more widely known version published in 1862 in theÂAnnales de chimie et de physique. Also included in this item is Édouard Lartet's "Nouvelles recherches sur la coexistence de l'homme et des grand mammifères fossiles", in vol.15. A foundational work establishing the antiquity of humankind and its coexistence with extinct fauna.
