Soyer shows her in profile, head bowed and hand at her neck, in a quiet, inward pose typical of his best portraits. Her vivid red blouse plays against the cool gray-blue ground. Museum paintings of the same model include Cynthia Resting (RISD Museum) and Cynthia with Glass (LACMA).
