Unknown (19th), Tiger hunting in the Indonesian jungle, Lithography Unknown (19th century): Tiger hunting in the Indonesian jungle, 19th century, Lithography Technique: Lithography on Paper Date: 19th century Description: At a clearing in the dense Indonesian jungle, a group of indigenous hunters and a Sumatran tiger face each other. Courageously, a young man stands in front of the natives, facing the predator with his chest bare and his bow tightly drawn. The feathers on his headdress testify to the young man's prominent position as a warrior. The tiger itself appears fearful and ducks behind a fern-covered rock. Turning his striped back to the viewer, he faces his fate, the pointed arrow aimed at him. Despite the presence of other figures and the small-scale nature of the Indonesian jungle, this scene contains the tremendous tension between hunter and prey, which manifests itself in the direct diagonal gaze relationship between the two. Keywords: Hunting, Tiger, Predator, Indian, Bow and Arrow, Archery, 19th century, Romanticism, Hunting, Indonesia, Size: Paper: 15,1 cm x 22,2 cm (5,9 x 8,7 in) Condition: Very good condition. The corners of the sheet show inconspicuous curling and minimal damage to the paper surface. Isolated pale foxing is visible.
