Upper right numbered in the printing plate: "Tom. 3. pag. 23.". Date: c. 1750 Description: This extraordinary aerial map shows the island of Machian, now known as Makian. It lies off the coast of Indonesia. The island was part of the historical "Spice Islands", which were prized by Europeans and Chinese for their vegetation, especially mace and nutmeg. It was part of the territory of the Dutch East Indies.
