Excellent, harmonious print with clearly defined lines Inscription: At the lower part signed in the printing plate: "G. Robertson del. / W. Watts sculp.". At the lower part inscribed in the printing plate: "Mount Clare in Surry the Seat of Sir John Dick Bart / Published as the Act directs June 10th 1784 by W. Watts, Chelsea.". Date: 1784 Description: Extensive park landscape with a country house in Neoclassical style situated in the center of a hill. In the foreground, several sheep graze on a dark, shaded meadow; on the right, two small figures stand and sit under tall trees next to a light carriage; further to the left, a team of horses moves along the hillside path. The middle ground opens up to lawns with scattered groups of bushes, the background to the cloudy sky. The composition staggers spatial depth across the slope, tree backdrops and architecture. Delicate layers of lines and dense hatching model the foliage, ground and shadow zones; the house appears as a calm, bright focus within the landscape framing.
