Dureis del. / Appuldurcombe Park, in the Isle of Wight, the Seat of Sir Richard Worsley Bart. / Published as the Act directs, Jan.y 1.st 1780, by W Watts, Hampstead near Chesham. / W. Walker sculp.". Date: 1780 Description: A wide park landscape with a stately country house in the middle ground, accessed by a curved driveway. A carriage with a carriage and rider enliven the open lawn; several deer rest and graze in the foreground. Tall trees frame the scene at the sides like a backdrop and stagger the view down to the hills and water on the horizon. The print works with delicate lines, dense hatching and graduated tonal values for modelling foliage, clouds and terrain. The composition combines topographical accuracy with an idealized park idyll and refers to aristocratic representation and tamed nature.
