CARSTENS (1762-1798), Keyserlingk and Voltaire, Etching Friedrich Christian Carstens (1762 - 1798 ): Portrait sheet with portraits of Baron Dietrich von Keyserlingk (1698-1745), adjutant general of Frederick the Great, and Voltaire (actually François-Marie Arouet, 1694-1778), French philosopher and writer of the European Enlightenment, 18th century, Etching Technique: Etching on Paper, mounted on Paper Inscription: Each signed by the artist in the printing plate below. Date: 18th century Description: Sheet with two portraits intended for separate use and separated by a central cut mark. At the top the sheet was separated from the corresponding counterpart. Each showing a half-profile bust portrait in an oval. Below the portraits is a panel inscribed with the sitter's name. Keywords: 18th century, Classicism, Portraits, France, Size: Paper: 11,6 cm x 14,4 cm (4,6 x 5,7 in), Depiction: 8,9 cm x 5,0 cm (3,5 x 2 in) Condition: Good condition. Slightly foxed. The paper is slightly soiled in places and wavy due to mounting.
