RONDAHL (1858-1914), Biblical historical scene, around 1880, Pencil Emmery Rondahl (1858 Vordingborg - 1914 Copenhagen): Sketch of a biblical history scene, c. 1880, Pencil Technique: Pencil on Paper Date: c. 1880 Description: Sketchy design for a scene with many figures at a palace. Probably as an illustration of a story from the Bible. On the reverse is a sketch of a pair of shepherds. The drawing comes from a collection of history and saga depictions with Nordic scenes and themes from the hand of the Danish artist Rondahl, who made a name for himself especially as a draughtsman. He provided the designs for numerous historical, archaeological and literary writings. Keywords: 19th century, Romanticism, Biblical, Denmark, Size: Paper: 26,4 cm x 21,3 cm (10,4 x 8,4 in), Depiction: 18,0 cm x 17,5 cm (7,1 x 6,9 in) Condition: Good condition. The sheet is slightly discolored due to its age and soiled in places, especially on the sheet margin. The corners of the sheet are minimally bumped.
