DUKELSKY B.SH. (1886-not before 1940) Sonety: 1923-1924 [Sonnets: 1923-1924]. Paris: [Ya. Povolotsky & Co.; Navarre printing house], 1924. 371 pp.; 19.2 x 12.5 cm. Print run of 500 copies. Copy no. 418. In the publisher’s illustrated wrapper. Wrapper, frontispiece and headpiece by the artist-engraver I. Lebedev. In very good condition. Rubbing and soiling to the wrapper, small foxing to the edges of the wrapper and to the page edges. Pages largely unopened. Benedikt Shmulevich Dukelsky-Dikler (1886 - after 1940) was a poet of the Silver Age and of the Russian emigration and a cousin of the famous Futurist poet Benedikt Livshits. He lived in France; all trace of him is lost after 1940. His collection ‘Sonnets’ entered literary history largely thanks to a scathing review by the young Vladimir Nabokov, who called Dukelsky’s verse an ‘illiterate jumble of words’ and ‘helpless clichés’. First edition. Upon the buyer’s request, we are pleased to provide a general condition report for the Lot described above.
