Mikhail Porfirievich Sokolnikov (1898-1979) was a Russian Soviet art historian, man of letters and journalist, one of the founders of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR, art editor of the ‘Academia’ publishing house and Honoured Worker of Culture of the RSFSR. Under his editorship the unique 1934 edition of ‘The Tale of Igor’s Campaign’ appeared, with expressive illustrations by the famous Palekh miniaturist Ivan Golikov.
