YAMAGATA, Hiro; PUSY LA FAYETTE, Gilbert de; and VILLON, André-François. *Those Words That Bind*. [Celebrating Two Centuries of American Constitutional Democracy]. Cyril Viguier and Great Events Editions, France, 1987. In-4 (37 x 27.5 cm), publisher’s binding, full leather with a portrait of George Washington in relief on the top cover, created by Hiro Yamagata; the author’s signature stamped and gilded on the bottom cover. 215 pp. A luxurious publication commemorating the bicentennial of the ratification of the U.S. Constitution in 1787. Limited edition of 555 numbered copies on Arches paper. This is one of the 200 additional copies reserved for U.S. embassies, numbered from E1 to E200. This copy bears the number E89 and is signed by Gilbert de Pusy La Fayette on the colophon. It does not include the advertised lithograph by Hiro Yamagata, but we do have an original India ink drawing, signed by the artist and dated 1987 (a portrait of George Washington that was used to illustrate the front cover). An internationally renowned artist, Hiro Yamagata has created works for the 1984 Olympic Games, the centennial of the Statue of Liberty in 1983, and the centennial of the Eiffel Tower in 1988, among other projects. A very fine copy.
