WILDT, Adolfo. [Catalog of the Works of Adolfo Wildt]. Milan - Rome, Casa editrice d'arte Bestetti e Tumminelli, n.d. [1906] Folio (40 x 30 cm), loose-leaf, in the publisher’s cloth-bound slipcase, with gilt title on the front cover and closure laces. Title page, 4 pages of text, 114 photographic reproductions. Plates slightly sun-faded. An important catalog, limited to 1,000 numbered copies (No. 493), of the work of Adolfo Wildt, an Italian sculptor of the first half of the 20th century, whose genre-blending work is marked by Symbolism, Art Nouveau, the Vienna Secession, and Expressionism. Portfolio comprising 114 plates of black-and-white photographic reproductions (several enhanced with gold) of the artist’s works. A singular figure in early 20th-century Italian sculpture, Adolfo Wildt developed a body of work of exceptional formal and spiritual intensity, at the intersection of fin-de-siècle Symbolism and modern artistic experimentation. Long considered an unclassifiable artist, he is now recognized as a key figure linking the Italian sculptural tradition to the modern sensibilities of the 20th century. His works are now held in major Italian public collections, notably at the Museo del Novecento and the Galleria d’Arte Moderna in Milan. A very fine copy, complete with all plates.
