[MUSIC]. CONOR, Léon. Handwritten musical scores dedicated to Auguste Bosc. Handwritten musical scores composed in the late 19th century by the French composer, conductor, and virtuoso Léon Conor (1833–1911), which he dedicated to his friend and conductor Auguste Bosc (1868–1945). Includes an 8-page booklet of handwritten scores titled “Tintamarre-Polka for Orchestra and Piano”; and 7 loose pages of handwritten scores of the same piece. Léon Conor was particularly renowned as a flageolet and cornet player. He began his career as a musician in the Paris Guard. Taking on a variety of roles (theater, military bands), he became best known for having conducted, for many years, the orchestra at the Bullier Ball, a famous public ball in the Montparnasse district of Paris. As a composer, he wrote numerous light pieces, genre pieces, and dance music (polkas, mazurkas, quadrilles) typical of the atmosphere of Parisian balls during the Belle Époque.
