Contemporary binding. XII-151-44-123 pp. Scuffing on the binding. Handwritten annotations on the endpapers. First edition. A collection of academic speeches delivered by Maupertuis: “Measurement of the Earth at the Arctic Circle”; “Inaugural Address to the French Academy”; "Speech to the Royal Academy of Sciences on the Day of the King’s Birth"; on the "Duties of an Academician"; "Eulogy of Mr. de Keyserlingk"; "Eulogy of Mr. Borck"; "Eulogy of Marshal de Schmetteau". In addition to the works mentioned, this volume contains the “Account of a Journey to Lapland.” This account was inserted between the first part (“Measurement of the Earth at the Arctic Circle”) and the second (“Academic Speeches”). A fine copy in a period binding.
