Small 12mo (12.5 x 7 cm), contemporary brown calfskin, ribbed spine decorated with gilt panels, title on a leather label. Red edges. 4 vols.: 417 pp. - 404 pp. - 442 pp. - 351 pp. Scuffs and damaged caps. Rare first edition of Brantôme’s *Mémoires*, published in Leiden by Jean Sambix the Younger [Elzevier], known as “à la Sphère.” The complete collection of the *Mémoires* normally comprises 10 volumes (*La vie des Hommes illustres*, *Les Dames illustres*, *Les Capitaines étrangers*, *Les Vies des Dames galantes*, and *Anecdotes sur les duels*. These first four volumes are complete for *La vie des Hommes illustres*.
