* Louis Léopold Thuilant (1862–1916) Roadmender’s Pitcher Made of glazed earthenware with a yellow base. It is ovoid in shape with a dorsal handle. The zoomorphic neck is shaped like a chicken’s head in the round. The stopper is in the round and depicts a hen brooding on her nest. The relief decoration features a roadmender surrounded by animals: two unharnessed horses, two dogs, and two goats, arranged symmetrically. A rooster and a fish complete this lively scene. Various stamped motifs on the body: fleur-de-lis crosses, small crosses, horseshoes, and various other crosses. A stylized motif, resembling a snowflake, features an incised profile of a man at its center. A cartouche on the back bears the hand-incised inscription: “Made by // Thuylant fils // Potter in Prevelle // in 1886 Sarthe” Sarthe, late 19th century H. 27 cm (without the stopper) and 30 cm with the stopper Neck broken and reattached; damage with chips and small fractures.
