Inlaid chest of drawers made of various woods, Lombardy, late 18th century 96 x 128 x 65 cm Decorated with floral and stylized Greek fret motifs from the Neoclassical repertoire; the front is protected by a retractable door concealing two drawers and a third, smaller one nestled in the frame beneath the top; the top features a musical allegory centered within an oval panel; the legs are truncated conical. Defects and restorations. This piece is an example of the successful Lombard furniture production between the late 18th century and the first quarter of the 19th century, often following the designs developed by Giuseppe Maggiolini (Parabiago, 1738–1814). Its formal structure essentially follows the stylistic dictates of full Neoclassicism, elevated to the highest technical and decorative expression by the renowned Milanese cabinetmaker and, in some cases, by his followers.
