Polychrome wooden sculpture depicting a saint, Naples, 18th century 60 x 29 x 19 cm The figure is draped in flowing robes, with deep vertical and diagonal folds, creating a strong chiaroscuro effect and a typically Baroque dynamism. A light-colored inner tunic is visible, topped by a voluminous dark cloak (which retains traces of blue pigmentation and gold trim) wrapped around the hips and left arm; the right hand rests on the chest in a classic gesture of devotion, while the left arm is extended outward with the open hand facing forward—a typical gesture of welcome or intercession. The face, with regular features and a thoughtful expression, gazes slightly upward and is framed by long dark hair that falls to the shoulders. Extensive traces of the original polychrome and gilding are visible on the surface, along with the typical signs of aging and the natural wear of ancient wood, lending an evocative character to this historic piece.
