THREE MISCELLANEOUS WORKS FROM THE 1800s: 1) Agnolo Pandolfini TREATISE ON FAMILY GOVERNANCE: EDITION ACCOMPANIED BY EXPLANATIONS AND OBSERVATIONS DRAWN FROM THE 1815 NAPLES EDITION. SINGLE VOLUME, ed. Venice, Girolamo Tasso, 1834. In 24°. Nineteenth-century reprint of the famous fifteenth-century treatise by Pandolfini (Florence, 1360–ibid., 1446), a reworking of the third book of Leon Battista Alberti’s *Della Famiglia*. The work (included by the Accademia della Crusca among its linguistic texts) contains numerous references to gastronomy (listed in: *Catalogo ragionato de' Classici italiani*, p. 128. See Virginio Cortesi, *Il governo della famiglia* by Agnolo Pandolfini: a critical study, Piacenza, 1881). 144 pp. A beautiful and rare edition of this work. Contemporary half-parchment binding with marbled covers and titles and friezes embossed in gold on the spine. 2) Giambattista Casti THE TALKING ANIMALS. WITH THE ADDITION OF VARIOUS APOLOGUES, ed. Milan, Borroni and Scotti, 1855. Large 16mo. Contemporary half-leather binding, with marbled covers, titles, fillets, and friezes in gold on the spine. In more than fair condition. A beautiful edition with a woodcut frontispiece by Francesco Nenci and Pietro Sola, protected by tissue paper, and a woodcut title page. pp. VIII, 637. 3) Luigi Vaslet INTRODUCTION TO THE SCIENCE OF ROMAN ANTIQUITIES, DRAWN IN PART FROM A SMALL WORK BY CRISTOFORO CELLARIO AND IN PART FROM THE FINEST ANCIENT AND MODERN AUTHORS, ed. Naples, Francesco Masi, 1843. A fine edition of this small handbook published by Masi, who presented it as an affordable, pocket-sized resource for students, while retaining the classic “purged and emended” structure that corrected the typographical errors accumulated in the old Venetian editions or in the very first Neapolitan editions of the early nineteenth century. Later binding in half-parchment with marbled covers. 185 pp.
