NAVIGLIOINCONTRO12 JOHN CAGE MUSIC GALLERIA DEL NAVIGLIO OCTOBER 15, 1969. Original poster for the event. In 1969, the Galleria del Naviglio organized “Naviglioincontri,” an innovative cultural series that brought together visual art, architecture, fashion, and contemporary music. On that occasion, the gallery hosted memorable avant-garde events, including film screenings and historic concerts, such as musical performances by John Cage himself, performed by the Canino-Ballista piano duo with mezzo-soprano Cathy Barberian. Barberian was an absolute icon and a true muse for the avant-garde music of the late 20th century. She was one of the most extraordinary and celebrated interpreters of the experimental vocal compositions of John Cage (such as the famous work *Aria*) and Luciano Berio.
